Fight The Stigma

Please read and share this amazing and important event about my friend Julio. (Don't you just love this picture of him and I eating Ellsworth cheese curds? ) His story is so inspiring to me and I love sharing other stories of perseverance and defying the odds! Fight the Stigma is a non profit cause focused on mental illness and suicide prevention. This work is what I fight for every day and its important that we recognize that depression and mental illness is not something to be left in the dark.

Press release:

Defeat the Stigma Project Run across Wisconsin

A Minneapolis-based non-profit organization, Defeat the Stigma is planning an 8-day run across the state of Wisconsin to raise awareness for mental illness and suicide prevention. The run will begin on May 7th in Agoma, and end saturday May 14th in Hudson.

A welcoming event is being planned for the runners' arrival in Hudson, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, at the downtown Hudson Bandshell Park, The community is encouraged to come out and welcome these runners in support of this important issue. Food, music, and an in-memorium balloon release will be held. Last year, the project's leader Julio Salazar, organized and completed a run across Minnesota. Along the way Salazar and his two running companions stopped in communities and visited schools to speak out against the stigma that prevents so many from getting the help they need to address mental illness. Too many Americans succumb to mental illness. too often with tragic results. Across the country, and right here in Wisconsin the suicide rate is increasing. More Americans die by suicide than from automobile accidents.
